Meet our Executive team.
Tracey joined Uniting in the role of Executive Director in April 2018 and brings more than 30 years’ experience in the Australian health and community services sector, including leadership roles in public and private hospitals and within the Catholic health care sector across NSW, Queensland and Victoria.
Prior to joining Uniting, Tracey was the Executive Director Eastern Hospitals for St John of God Health Care, where she led the team responsible for St John of God’s 10 eastern hospitals, mostly based in regional and specialty service settings.
Tracey’s previous roles include: CEO St George Private Hospital, Ramsay Health Care; General Manager Corporate Services St Vincent’s & Mater Health Sydney; Executive Director Mater Private Hospital, South Brisbane; and Project Manager and General Manager, Hawkesbury District Health Service.
In addition to her executive management roles, Tracey has also served as a Board Director for aged care services, disability services in New Zealand and for a medical research foundation. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Health Administration (UNSW), Masters of Business Administration (AGSM), Graduate AICD and an Executive program at Columbia University (NYC).
Tracey has a strong reputation for building high performing teams and achieving growth in response to changing community needs, and is uncompromising when it comes to safety for clients and employees. Tracey is committed to bringing to life the mission of the Uniting Church in Australia, directly serving vulnerable people and advocating for change in the systems that trap people in cycles of disadvantage.
Deputy Executive Director
Doug Taylor is Deputy Executive Director at Uniting NSW.ACT, having previously provided organisational leadership in Disability, Early Learning and Home and Community Care services. He has built a 25-year career domestically and internationally in the social sector.
These interests are manifest in his membership of the Boards of the Australian Centre for Social Innovation, WorkVentures and as Chair of Warakirri College. He’s also a member of the Advisory Boards of the Centre for Social Impact and the Community Services Industry Alliance Reform Council. Doug is a Community Fellow for Western Sydney University and has completed postgraduate studies in management, attended the Stanford Executive Program for Non-profit Leaders and is a graduate of the Australian Institute for Company Directors.
Director Finance and Strategy
Anna joined Uniting in January 2017. She has a background in banking, management consulting, media and consumer goods.
Prior to Uniting, Anna held various roles leading the design and implementation of large business restructuring and efficiency programs for companies such as Pacific Brands, News Corp and Westpac. She also advised government and corporate clients on strategy and business model design.
Anna has extensive experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, strategy and operational improvement as a Manager with McKinsey & Company in Europe and Australia, as a Senior Advisor in Corporate Strategy and Investments for the National Australia Bank, and as a Principal at A.T. Kearney in the Organisation and Transformation practice.
For many years, Anna has also been a volunteer mentor of young professionals and young people in care.
Director Children, Youth and Families
Sue joined Uniting in January 2020 and has been leading the Directorate through COVID-19, a challenging time to come into the sector. It’s a time that presents an opportunity to look at how we can work differently and more effectively to support children and young people to lead productive and healthy lives. She has worked in clinical and corporate governance for more than 30 years, and has Director and Board-level experience.
Prior to joining Uniting, Sue was CEO of Austin Health in Melbourne. A personal highlight there, was the development of a partnership with community and primary health services, with the main purpose of integrating care. One of the partnership’s key deliverables over a 5-year period included a program addressing children’s developmental needs.
She has previously held several senior roles in NSW Health, helping to design and deliver new adult, women’s and children’s services. Sue served as the General Manager of Royal North Shore and Ryde Hospitals and Community Health Services for 6 years, leading significant transformational change.
Sue first entered the workforce as a paediatric physiotherapist, and spent a period working for a large consulting firm in the health and human services sector.
Director Customer, People and Systems
Jill was appointed to the role of Director Customer, People and Systems in January 2018, and was previously the Director People, Learning and Culture.
Jill is an experienced executive, having worked in both the public and private sectors across several industries. Her invaluable expertise includes leading transformational change in large, complex organisations, and developing sustainable culture change programs which support and accelerate the implementation of strategic imperatives.
Director Governance, Risk and Quality
Mary Carpenter joined Uniting as Director of Governance, Risk and Quality in March 2019, and Board Chair of Uniting War Memorial Hospital from December 2021.
During this time, Mary has been fundamental in developing the Governance, Risk and Quality Directorate, from creating the overall directorate structure through to implementing and delivering organisational frameworks on Risk Management, Business Continuity Framework, Quality Management and Child Safety. Mary works closely with all Directors and the Board to ensure a risk culture is being embedded throughout the organisation.
Mary has driven the supply of information and evidence for the 2 recent Royal Commissions into aged care and disability, and is implementing recommendations. She has also developed the COVID-19 emergency crisis response, prevention and pandemic plans that continue to keep our employees and clients and safe.
In her previous role as Chief Quality and Risk Officer at Estia Health, Mary was responsible for the company’s risk management framework, governance structure and facility-level clinical reporting suite to underpin continuous improvement. Mary has also worked at Allity Aged Care and Bupa, where she managed a range of risk, compliance, and operational responsibilities.
Saviour Buhagiar was appointed to the Uniting Executive as Director Residential and Health Care in June 2016, having joined Uniting in 2013 in the role of Director Residential and Health Care Services.
In November 2018, Saviour was appointed to the role of Director Ageing with responsibility for Home and Community Care operations added to his portfolio. Prior to joining Uniting, Saviour managed services supporting people with intellectual disability living in both group homes and specialist support services with Family and Community Services, and prior to that he worked in various roles with the Home Care Service of NSW.
Director Property and Housing
Simon joined Uniting as Director Property and Housing in October 2016. He has a proven track record in the delivery and life-cycle management of large property portfolios to meet the strategic and operational objectives of a range of blue-chip corporations and government authorities. Most of his career has been in large organisations whose success depended heavily on the performance of infrastructure and property assets. He has particularly enjoyed opportunities to transform property assets to improve business outcomes, and provide spaces where people enjoy working, living and visiting.
Simon has held senior executive and line-management roles in market-leading service-based companies including CBRE, Vodafone, Telstra and Spotless, as well as 8 years as a senior executive in government. His early career was as an officer in the Royal Engineers and Royal Australian Engineers. Simon is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has an MBA and Honours degree in Civil Engineering.
As a member of the Executive team, Simon has a key role in transforming our retirement and independent living service to deliver Uniting’s vision for inclusive and connected communities, as well as ensuring our property portfolio underpins the success of all our services.
